About USP&E

Used Diesel Gensets is for owners at a turning point: keep the diesel sets, replace them, or step up to gas turbines with USP&E.

About USP&E

Powering Possibility. Built for the Frontier.

Used Diesel Gensets is the USP&E page for fleet transitions. USP&E is a power generation company that designs, builds and operates power stations and that holds more than 2000 MW of Wärtsilä, Cat and Bergen reciprocating inventory alongside gas turbines.

Backed by ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, 400+ engineers and project managers and offices in the USA, Africa, the UK and China, we advise on when a used diesel set is the right buy and when it is not.

A used diesel set is a decision about the next ten years, not the next ten weeks.

Reasons to move

Owners come to us because fuel costs are high, parts are hard to find, a site is closing or load has outgrown the fleet. We examine each case with tank reuse, alternator windings, paralleling gear, resistive banks and controls in mind, because those items decide what can be kept.

Where a plant is retiring diesel, a used gas turbine often delivers more megawatts per hall, and a remanufactured Frame 6B or modular FX-45 block may be better still.

Diesel to gas pathway

Stage Action
Inspect Themes and evidence for the existing sets
Decommission Remove, record and redeploy equipment
Bridge Run diesel while turbines are installed
Operate EPC handover to O&M

Compare before you buy

  • Used turbines vs used diesel: when each wins.
  • Frame 6B: remanufactured units for sites with gas.
  • AI campuses: diesel to turbine paths for compute loads.

What gets reused

Retiring diesel does not mean scrapping it. Tanks, alternators, paralleling gear and resistive banks often have a second life. Fuel polishing equipment, controls and load banks can move to other sites. We plan decommissioning so that value is recorded, not lost.

At campus scale, the same sets can serve as bridge power or standby while gas turbines take over primary duty.

Bridging the gap

Diesel sets keep the plant alive while the next chapter is built. We plan the overlap: which sets stay on, which are retired and how gas turbines are phased in. That avoids both a risky cut-over and the cost of running two plants longer than needed.

Linked resources

Browse the diesel generator inventory, compare with the natural gas turbine inventory and read about asset refurbishment when a set deserves another life.

Before you decide

  • Hours and condition: ask for the file.
  • Fuel future: diesel, gas or both.
  • Site plan: how long will the site run.

Why advice matters here

Used equipment markets reward knowledge. An engineer who has commissioned diesel sets and gas turbines can tell you whether an offer is a bargain or a burden. We apply that judgement to our own listings and to equipment you are considering from elsewhere, when you ask.
